Home Management…3/26 Update

March 26, 2012

I’m *so* very behind on my book reviews.

I probably should have stuck Large Family Logistics on the bottom of my list for this year. I knew when I picked the book up, I would be there for a while. 🙂

I’ve already read through the book once, but I decided it was worth reading through again and this time with the intention of trying out some of her ideas for home management.

Since it’s Monday morning, I don’t have time to write a full review, but I thought it would be fun to share this week’s assignment and progress!

According to the book, this is “living room/family room” week. This means these areas will have a deep cleaning this week as well, on Saturday, the assignment is to look at the room and decide on something that would help the room look nicer or more “homey”. In addition, there is a bedroom assignment this week. We’ll be cleaning ceiling fans, cobwebs, and light switches. Of course, one day is also devoted to laundry and a general scrub-down of the house.

I have found I look forward to having these Saturday projects. It gives me extra motivation to tidy everything so we can tackle some project that’s needed to be done.

This past Saturday, we bought a dishwasher from Craig’s List.

Josh and Courtney took Matthew to pick it up. Later that day, Jacob installed it, and then installed these two light fixtures in the family room!

If you’ve visited my home, you know these look WAY better than the hanging light and the broken ceiling fan that were here when we moved in!

I framed a picture for my bedroom from a recent trip with Paul, and hung a wreath I made from some of the roses that Paul gave me for our 17th anniversary (yes, shamefully, I’ve had them just hanging waiting to make my wreath for that long….).

I also added grapevine to my bedroom curtain rod (I need a different rod for this, but I’m not ready for that just yet!). I made it from a thrift store grapevine wreath.

Since last week was bedroom week, we’ve done little things to all the bedrooms…including patching the terribly out-dated room our littles sleep in- we’re preparing it for paint.

This week, I have goals for hanging our baby pictures in the living room (I have to find enough frames first!), and maybe finishing the trim around the floor of that room.

The family room needs lots of work, I’m praying about where the Lord would have me work in that room this week. The windows need to be cleaned from the outside and we have a window unit (air conditioner) that needs to be mounted before summer. Aside from that, I’m not sure!

This entire home management system has given us a much more efficient system for working in our home.

I’m going to try to post a full review in upcoming days, but until then, if you have considered this book, it’s quickly becoming a favorite in my home!

A Day of Rest

March 25, 2012

I'm Here, Just Busy.

March 23, 2012

The past months have been some of the busiest of my life.

I would like to say I could place my finger on just one reason that our days have been so full. Honestly, there have been so many things happening, it’s hard to remember everything!

I guess, first, I should thank some of you ladies for reaching out with an email, or a card when I had my oral surgery.

It is most definitely NOT something I ever want to have done awake again. There is just something about hearing a doctor crack your tooth that is unsettling.

In the end, I really felt none of it, so for that, I am VERY much blessed. I was sore for about a week but it passed as soon as my stitches fell out. I’m glad to be feeling better and I’m more thankful for your prayer!

Our pregnancy seems to be going well.

I am not nearly as nauseated as I was with Miss Darby. What a blessing that has been!

So far, everything seems to be picture perfect. (As a side note, when I went to the doctor for the first time after my surgery, the nurse noted that my blood pressure had significantly dropped. She asked if I had started medicine for high blood pressure. It took me a minute to realize it was probably due to having had my teeth taken out, and not being in so much pain after several months. I guess I didn’t realize your teeth could change your blood pressure so much!)

We did get to see our newest little one a couple of weeks back:

I noticed immediately that the face shape seems so similar to Darby’s. I can’t wait to see this new little baby! ….and did I mention, we found out it’s a BOY!!!

Our family is thrilled!! I really would have thought at least the girls would be wanting another girl. That would have given us six girls and six boys, but my little girls have been telling me they were hoping the baby was a boy! God is good!!

Paul and I are praying over his name. I think we have one chosen, but we’re taking our time to make sure it’s right.

Well, that’s all for my update right now. I’ll really try to post more in the coming days. I feel behind! 🙂

Sending you all wishes for a wonderful Friday–

With my love,

First Day of Spring….
